Essential Zerg SC2 Playing Tips

Playing zerg can be pretty tough. You constantly have to inject larvae, worry about early rushes, and maintain good macro. Hopefully these tips will help improve your zerg gameplay. I personally write down most of these tips on a sticky-note and stick it on my monitor to remind me to execute them.

General Tips

It’s always a good idea to think in advance but most importantly react to what your opponent is doing.

If your on the defensive remember to mix in some future tech upgrades, giving you the advantage in the mid/late game.

Constantly spread creep over the map. By doing this you will get a handy dandy speed bonus allowing you to control the map and react to things like a ninja.

Zerg vs Protoss

Make sure to thoroughly scout out the Protoss base. Are they going for 4 gate or 2 gate/robo? Check the gas to give you a indicator. If they are only harvesting from one then you might be in for a early rush.

Check to see what hes Chrono Boosting. If it’s the nexus he is probably gathering minerals for the future tech.

If there is a rush don’t be afraid to use spine crawlers. They cant be moved at any time to benefit you further.

Zerg vs Terran

Occasionally check up on your opponent with a zergling. Find out what hes building or if he’s turtling. If you see that he is turtling try and expand and contain the middle.
Roaches absolutely own marines. So if you see him going mass marine & marauder it will be helpful to have a few roaches mixed in with your main force.

Another great way to deal with a turtled Terran is using the handy Banelings. Send them in to bust your way through.

Zerg vs Zerg

In a Zerg vs. Zerg match up every unit counts. In my earlier days of starcraft I was all about the Rambo. I would sacrifice units left and right. Unfortunately I had to learn the unpleasant way that it can be for the best to fall back in certain situations.
