Why Controlling the Center of the Map is so Powerful

If you watch alot of SC2 on youtube you’ve probably heard alot of commentators mention how important it is to control the center of the map, but is being in the middle of the map really that powerful? What are the advantages and disadvantages of doing so?

Contains your opponent

Once you have control of the center of the map you’ll start noticing how easy it is to deny your opponents 2nd or 3rd expansions. You will be able to trap your foe slowly choking out their minerals while you grab as many as you can.

Allows you to freely expand

The largest benefit  of controlling the center of the map is that it allows you to comfortably expand. Even if you are a new player playing against someone more skilled, if you have a base up on your opponent your more likely going to win the game. So if you ever find yourself in a situation where you are dominating the middle macro and expand like crazy.

Great Scouting Info

Tired of sneak attacks? When controlling the center your vision will dramaticly increase lowering the chance of a dropship or something else sneaking past you and wrecking havoc. Also remember to put atleast one unit on both Xel’Naga Watch Towers.

When you control the center of the map you will find that you also control how the game unfolds.
